The Senat Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej
The Senat Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej is a legislative authority whose functioning and tasks are defined in Chapter IV of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland dated April 2, 1997.
Senators and deputies (members of the Sejm), when meeting together, form the National Assembly, whose tasks include, among others, administering the oath to the newly elected President of the Republic of Poland, hearing the President’s address, and bringing charges against the President before the State Tribunal. Joint sessions of the Sejm and Senate convened, for example, on the occasion of visits by heads of state or to commemorate important events, are not considered meetings of the National Assembly.
